There was a fascinating point that I heard on All Things Considered last night. For one reason or another, parts of the testimony and documents presented in the Spc. Charles Graner court-martial have been redacted or classified
. Some of this is due to CIA involvement. More interesting is the apparent pattern of these hidden bits: they mainly seem to concern, ahem, techniques of interrogation. Obviously the CIA does not want these methods to be public. Why? So enemies can't prepare defenses against specific methods? Possibly. I lean to the opinion that it's because the specifics are horrible violations of Geneva Conventions.
